Child Learning and Development

The goal of the Child Learning and Development Practices Laboratory is to identify and investigate the characteristics and consequences of everyday development-enhancing learning opportunities supporting and strengthening child competence and development. The development-enhancing characteristics constituting the focus of investigation include the kinds of everyday activity providing contexts for child learning, the role child personal interests and child initiated learning play in shaping child competence and development, and the key factors and elements of everyday learning opportunities supporting and strengthening children's sense of mastery and self-efficacy (CASEinPoint, Volume 1, Number 2). Laboratory activities include a variety of assessment, intervention, and capacity building studies and initiatives examining the characteristics of practices increasing the likelihood that children experience rich and varied development-enhancing learning opportunities. Additional information about the kinds of practices constituting the focus of investigation are described in our CASEmaker (Volume 1, Number 2) publication.
