Community Outreach
The goal of the Community Outreach Practices Laboratory is to investigate the characteristics and key features of different ways of influencing parents' and professionals' beliefs about and understanding of early childhood intervention and family support practices. A main focus of Community Outreach activities and initiatives is changing professional and parent beliefs and understanding as a means of promoting increased use of and referrals to early childhood intervention and family support programs. Parent and professional beliefs and understandings are conceptualized as factors contributing to the likelihood of using early childhood and family support as sources of resources for children with or at risk for developmental delays. Community Outreach Practices Laboratory activities currently include a number of studies and initiatives investigating methods and strategies for promoting awareness of and referrals to early childhood intervention and family support programs.
