Parenting Education and Supports
The goal of the Parenting Education and Support Practices Laboratory is to identify and discern the characteristics of parenting education and support practices that are related to optimal child and parent benefits. Parenting education and supports include the information, advice, guidance, and so forth that both strengthen existing parenting knowledge and skills and promote acquisition of new competencies necessary for parents to (a) carry out child rearing responsibilities and (b) provide their children development-enhancing learning opportunities. A major focus of Parenting Education and Support Practices Laboratory studies and initiatives is the identification of the kinds of parent capacity-building and participatory practices and experiences that contribute to improved and enhanced parent competence and confidence (CASEmakers, Volume 1, Number 4).
